About the event
Wild About Craft Worskshop series
Join Gwent Wildlife Trust’s crafty ecologists, Kath and Lowri, to learn a new craft inspired by the Trust’s 10 vulnerable species!
If you’re looking for inspiration, our friendly and relaxed ‘Wild About Craft’ group will help you try out new skills whilst connecting with nature in the beautiful setting of Magor Marsh Nature Reserve.
We are hosting multiple workshops throughout the year, exploring different crafts, inspired by each of our 10 vulnerable species. Every session will begin with a short talk (or walk in spring/summer!) to explore the subject matter, before guiding you through fun exercises and onto the final creations. Each session can be enjoyed as a standalone event, but attending multiple workshops will provide a richer experience, allowing you to explore working with different mediums and build a nature journal of observations.
Session 2 – Paint a watercolour Dipper
Join us on World Wetlands Day to celebrate the curious and characterful Dipper. The Dipper is our only aquatic songbird and can be found bobbing and diving along fast flowing rivers throughout Gwent.
In honour of its watery habits, we have chosen to study our subject in watercolour paint!
Details: Sunday 2nd February 2025, 10:00am – 2:30 pm (with lunch break)
We will provide photo inspiration, paints, brushes and paper, however, if you’d like to build a personal nature journal, please bring along your own mixed-media (watercolour suitable) art book.
Light refreshments will be provided, but please bring your own packed lunch.
Please note that this workshop is not run by professional artists, but by staff with a passion for connecting people to wildlife through craft. No previous experience is needed! The cost of the activity covers materials and supports the work of Gwent Wildlife Trust. This activity is only suitable for 16+.
