About the event

The Forest Waters project aims to improve the hydrological and ecological function of catchments within the Forest of Dean using natural processes. This includes the recent release of a pair of beavers into an enclosure on the Blackpool Brook catchment. Over the coming years the beavers are expected to create a unique range of habitats through their tree felling and damming work. They will create pools, wetlands, submerged and standing deadwood and beaver meadows, each supporting a wider range of plant and animal species. Beavers are known as ‘ecosystem engineers’ because of their significant impact on habitats.
