About the event

Our New Grove Meadow reserve is brimming with life all year round, even in October it displays an amazing array of colour in the many weird and wonderful forms of grassland fungi!

This site is known to host various species of colourful waxcaps, including the Pink ‘Ballerina’ Waxcap (one of GWTs 10 target species). We’re working to protect, restore and raise awareness of Ten Vulnerable Species in Gwent thanks to support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

This event of fungi fun involves working together as a group, slowly making our way across the fields in New Grove Meadows, seeing what grassland fungi we can find as we go and identifying them – last year we found over 50 different species!

This event is weather dependent, though considering the time of year, rain is likely and we advise everyone to wear suitable clothing.

Please be aware that, in rare cases, mushrooms can pose a threat to humans due to toxicity therefore handling is at your own risk and all relevant precautions to avoid poisoning must be taken and adhered to.
