FUNGAL PRINTS AVAILABLE FROM GWENT WILDLIFE TRUST

The Trust is able to offer for sale some unique fungi prints. These are acknowledged by experts in the field to be illustrations of outstanding quality. The originals were drawn by the artist Peter Walton and were prepared as illustrations for a book but this was never published. On his death the prints were donated to Gwent Wildlife Trust. They are numbered out of 500 and consist of the following:-

A collection of Morels including Morchella esculenta, Morchella elata, Morchella semilibera and Verpa conica.   Shaggy Inkcap’s or Lawyers Wigs, Coprinus comatus.   Saddle fungi probably Helvella crispa.   Two separate images. a) Cramp balls or King Alfred’s Cakes, Daldinia concentrica, (one whole and one in section). b) A collection of Earth Stars including Geastrum triplex and Geastrum fornicatum.   A Stinkhorn and the Dog’s Stinkhorn, Phallus impudicus and Mutinus caninus.   Two separate images. a) A Coral Fungus. b) An Earth Ball, Scleroderma citrina.

The illustrations are so good that for many the identification of the fungus is possible, however, in some cases the names given should not be regarded as definitive since identification without the specimen available is often difficult and sometimes impossible.
